How does the personalised name print work?
Type their name, profession, years of service and where they worked: we set it in editorial type beneath a Happy Retirement headline and show you the layout instantly. No photo needed. When you order, the design is rendered at full print resolution and made to order.
How does the photo portrait work?
Upload a photo of the retiree, their workplace, their boat or their garden, pick one of five styles (oil, watercolour, charcoal, pop art or impressionist) and we turn it into AI-made art in that style. Verify your email for three successful previews per day on this website. Each is watermarked and saved for 30 days. When you order, the print is made from the artwork you approved, without the watermark, at an eligible print size or as a digital download.
Will the printed portrait look like the preview?
The print is made from the artwork you approved, without the watermark, cropped to the product shape as shown in its preview; a digital download contains the complete artwork.
What can I put on the print?
Their name (up to 37 characters on a print or canvas, 40 on a mug, 25 on a bottle), profession, years of service and where they worked: the last three are optional. We typeset exactly what you enter, so double-check spelling before you pay; we can't reprint free of charge where the details supplied were wrong.
Prices, delivery and returns
Will it arrive before the leaving do?
Made to order in 2 to 4 working days, then delivered free in 2 to 5 more: 4 to 9 working days in all, to UK addresses only. Each product page and your basket show the estimated arrival dates for an order placed today, so order at least 9 working days before the leaving do. Priority delivery costs £4.99 and takes 3 to 6 working days, chosen at checkout. For Christmas 2026, order by Thursday 10 December with free standard delivery, or by Tuesday 15 December with Priority delivery (£4.99, chosen at checkout).
How can I pay?
By card through Stripe, with Apple Pay or Google Pay where your device supports them. We never see your card details. We do not sell gift vouchers and there are no discount codes.
How much does a personalised gift cost?
Each size has its price beside it on the product page, and standard UK delivery is included. The lowest price is a digital file you print yourself; printed gifts start at A4. The preview is free, and you pay only when the wording is right.
How long does delivery take?
Each gift is made to order: production takes 2 to 4 working days, then delivery 2 to 5 working days, so allow up to 9 working days. We deliver to UK addresses only. A digital download is emailed, so nothing is posted.
What do you do with uploaded photos?
Uploads are used only to produce your preview and your print. Unpurchased uploads are deleted automatically after 30 days. Watermarked previews are saved for 30 days. We never use your photos for anything else.
Can I send it as a gift?
Yes. Tick "This is a gift" in your basket and enter their name and address as the delivery address at checkout. The parcel carries no prices or receipt. No message is printed or put in the parcel: if you write a note, it comes back to you in the order confirmation email, ready to copy into a card.
How do digital downloads work?
A digital file is emailed to you as a download link, valid for 30 days, with no delivery charge. It is made from your wording or your photo. Digital content can normally be cancelled within 14 days, so your basket asks you to tick a box asking us to send the file as soon as payment clears and confirming that you then lose that right (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, reg 37). Checkout does not go ahead for a download without it.
Can I return a personalised gift?
Not for a change of mind. Name prints, portraits and photo prints are made from your wording or your photo, so they are made to your specification and the 14-day cancellation right doesn't apply (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, reg 28(1)(b)). If one arrives damaged, faulty or wrong, tell us as soon as you can at hello@theretirementgiftco.com with your order reference and a photo, and we reprint or refund it at our cost. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected.
Can I return a picture from the shop?
Yes. The sixteen pictures in the shop are chosen from our standard range, so you can change your mind. Cancel at any time until 14 days after the day it arrives, then send it back unused and in its original condition within 14 days of telling us. You pay the return postage unless it is faulty, and we refund the price you paid, including standard delivery. Delivery and returns has the detail.
